Sneak peak of the new website. Launch date 9 August.

The University of Oxford has launched a new online library of images. Please email Anne-Marie for log in details.

Fellows and staff photo shoot

As part of the Communications Project we will have a photographer in College on Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 May between 11am and 3pm. Mim Axl www.mimsaxl.com is a graduate of St Hilda’s College and will be taking photos of Fellows and staff ready for the new website. You will be able to choose your favourite shot and we will supply the photo to you for use on publications and other websites. The photos will be taken in the Butler Room.

Please book your 10 minute slot here: bit.ly/HTmrRP

I would be most grateful if Fellows and staff made use of this opportunity. Prospective applicants, students and new members of the College find it particularly helpful to have access to a photo that helps them identify individuals.

Current undergraduate and postgraduate students tell us what makes University College so special. We’ve made a number of videos showcasing researchers at Univ and to introduce the Master.

Most of this week has been spent creating videos with The French Exchange in readiness for the new website. We have created a video interview with the Master, a student-life video and a research focussed video featuring two Univ Fellows.

Shooting video is far more demanding than shooting photography. Here are some photos from behind the scenes! The shoot spanned three days and was made possible by the patience and willingness of the participating Univ students, staff and Fellows. Thanks to the Physics and Earth Sciences Department for allowing us access to their facilities. Special thanks to The French Exchange team, Kerry, Rob, Santi and Andy, who showed exemplary vision, patience and talent in helping us to create some wonderful videos.

So, whilst we busily edit the videos why not watch our student-created 'Whistle-stop tour of Univ' ?

The Univ Web2Print service is now up and running. Fellows and staff at Univ have recently been emailed their log on details. Once logged on user can personalise stationery items such as business and send them to print (as demonstrated by the screenshot above). This offers cost-savings for the College. The system is bespoke and has been built for Univ by Technique printers. All orders will be checked with relevant departmental heads before they are sent to print. Please contact Anne-Marie if you have any questions or would like further guidance on using the facility. Click this post to be linked to the portal.

Another Twitter workshop

The #univtweets training session is back by popular demand.

Where and when: 1pm in the 90 High Street Lecture Room on Wednesday 1 February.

The 30 minute workshop will explore how Twitter can be used by academics, students and staff here at Univ. All are welcome - from curious newcomers to experienced tweeters!

Mashable have a useful guidebook resource here: http://mashable.com/guidebook/twitter/

Univ now has a preferred provider for our stationery printing. Technique is a Banbury-based company that has been around since 1997. We have been impressed with their quality of print, value for money and helpfulness: www.techniqueprint.co.uk

Most importantly, Technique have developed a bespoke web-to-print portal for Univ. This means that individuals will be able to log on and access a variety of templates, update them and send them to print. This will make it easier than ever to get key items printed. I know business card orders are waiting and we hope to have this service up and running in the next week or so. More details to follow.

Paper stocks have also been chosen. We are now printing on a white paper and card rather than the cream that has been previously used.

  • Headed paper and compliments slips will be printed on Conqueror Diamond White Paper CX22 100gsm
  • Folders will be printed on Perfect Image Card 400gsm
  • Business cards will be printed on Splendorgel Card 400gsm

Karen or David are our contacts at Technique and the telephone number is 01295 250025 . I visited the printing presses in early January and took a few snaps of the tools of the trade.

Logos and templates now available

The new Univ artwork is now available for download:

http://www.univ.ox.ac.uk/news_and_announcements/logos_and_templates/

You can also access a variety of stationery templates including letterhead paper, compliment slips, powerpoint presentations, signage and more.

A business card template is currently being set up with a designated print company. Offices and individuals should then supply information to the printer who will make up the cards and print them on your behalf. This is both cost-effective and ensures all business cards are of high quality.

As always, please contact me if I can be of further help.

New equipment has arrived!

Univ now has an entry-level DSLR camera (Nikon D3100) to allow members of the College to create high quality images. The camera can be booked out by emailing me [anne-marie.canning@univox.ac.uk]. We also have an excellent audiorecorder, a Marantz PMD661, which can be used to capture talks and interviews and is available for borrowing by staff, students and Fellows.
